Electronic Device Policy
Students may not use radios, walkmen, IPODS, MP3S, stereos, beepers, remotes, laser pointers, or pagers in the school. Cell phones and other devices may be kept in a book bag, purse or pocket (hidden from view) and are not permitted to disrupt the learning environment. Students may use their cell phone BEFORE SCHOOL, DURING THEIR LUNCH AND AFTER SCHOOL ONLY. At all other times during the regular school day, students are NOT permitted to utilize or have visible any electronic device as defined by the North Marion Discipline Policy. If a student does not adhere to the previous statement, the following procedures will be set in motion.
1st Offense: Student’s device will be confiscated by teacher or administrator. The student will be issued a disciplinary warning. The student may retrieve the device from the administrator’s office at the end of the school day after conferencing with an administrator.
2nd Offense: Student’s device will be confiscated by teacher or administrator. The student will be assigned three days of lunch detention and the student’s parent must retrieve the device from an administrator’s office.
3rd Offense: Student’s device will be confiscated and the student’s parent must obtain the device from the office. The student will be referred to an administrator for suspension from school.
Furthermore, if a cell phone is used during the school day to cause disruption in one or more classes, (texting, cheating, phoning) the administrator may immediately suspend the student from school. Those students who disobey this restriction will be subject to appropriate disciplinary action by the school administration.
With permission from office administration, students are permitted to place and/or receive calls on the school phone in emergency situations. Messages from parents or guardians will be taken by the school secretary or office worker and delivered to the student’s classroom.
