Curriculum, Technology, & Instruction
Curriculum, technology, and instruction are interrelated.
Curriculum is essentially a design, or roadmap for learning. The focus is on knowledge and skills that are important to learn. The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) help to drive the curriculum and instruction.
Instruction includes the methods by which learning is achieved. Student learning outcomes are described in the 21st Century Learning Framework.
Marion County schools have adopted the 21st century curriculum that blends thinking and innovation skills; information, media, and ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) literacy; and life and career skills in context of core academic subjects (the”3Rs”) and across interdisciplinary themes.
Schools in Marion County employ methods of 21st century instruction that integrate innovative and research-proven teaching strategies, modern learning technologies, and real world resources and contexts.
The mission of the Technology Department is to:
- prepare instructional staff to integrate technology into the curriculum
- promote a student-learning environment that nurtures the application of technological skills
Technology integration addresses the following:
- Learning the basics of using technology
- Using technology to support instruction
- Integrating new technology into classroom practice
- Discovering new uses for technology tools
- Designing projects that combine multiple technologies
- Focusing on cooperative, project-based and interdisciplinary work with technology being just one of many tools that students use.
