Title III / ESL (English as a Second Language)

The Title III program is a component of NCLB (No Child Left Behind), enacted by Congress in June of 2001. The purpose of the Title III program is to identify non-native speakers of English and to provide them with instructional support sufficient to learn and achieve on level with native English speakers.
Marion county's ELL population is served by ESL instructors, Miss Erin Gripper and Mrs. Jenny Seibert. The ELL population in Marion County consists of French, Korean, German, Vietnamese, Chinese, Mexican, Spanish, Tagalog, and East Indian students. This population of students in Marion County has shown a steady increase for the past five years, and is expected to continue.
Marion County was one of a handful of counties in West Virginia that met AMAO (Annual Measurable Academic Objectives) for the past two years. All of Marion County's ESL personnel are either ESL-certified or working on ESL certification.
