East Fairmont Middle School

East Fairmont Middle School students will be taking their writing assessments tomorrow morning. All students need to have their Chromebooks charged and be sure to be in the school building by 7:15 am tomorrow or else they will have to make up the test and have to complete make up work for the classes they miss to do so. Students may bring their own personal WIRED ear buds to use for testing if they wish.

The 5th grade permission slips for the December field trip to the CAC is due tomorrow. Please make sure your child turns it in if they have not already done so.

Picture retake day is this Wednesday, 11/15. If your student needs to retake their photo or if they missed picture day back in September, they should pick up a picture day form from the office on Monday or Tuesday.

Science Adventure School Opportunity 6th grade students have the opportunity to attend a Science Adventure Camp at Jackson's Mill either as a four day experience or a one day abbreviated experience. The four day option would be Tuesday, October 17th to Friday, October 20th and the one day option would be on Thursday, October 19th. If your family opts for the four day option, students would need to arrive to school by 8:30 am on the 17th with their necessary items and would return to the school at 1:30 pm. Students would need transportation to and from the school these days. If you family opts for the one day option, students would need to arrive to school by 6:00 am on the 19th and would return at approximately 5:30 pm. Again students would need transportation to and from this school on this day. Please have your child share the information they received via google classroom and their permission slips that they received today in 8th period!

Yearbook order forms were sent home with students during AA this week. Yearbooks are currently at their lowest price of the year at $39 until September 29th. Yearbooks can still be purchased after that date, but the price will raise. Students can take their order form, along with payment, to the office, or yearbooks can be purchased online at jostensyearbooks.com.

This Veterans Day, East Fairmont Middle School students hope to set up a field of American flags to honor local veterans and raise critical funds to support our ill and injured heroes. To set up our field of flags, we need our community's help! Each flag is $10, and proceeds are sent to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) foundation for life changing services for veterans in need and their families. Every flag in our field will represent one veteran—and our unwavering commitment to serving all veterans after they’ve sacrificed so much for our country. Happy Sunday Hornets!!! We can't wait to see all of our kids back at the middle school bright and early tomorrow morning!!! Please remember that students who are being dropped off need to arrive to East Fairmont Middle along Mason Street between 6:45 and 7:15. You may let your child off anywhere along Mason as we will have staff out there waiting to greet them. No parents are permitted in the parking lot or bus loop during this time unless prior arrangements have been made.

Tonight starting at 5 pm is our new student orientation and open house for all students. During open house, any 5th grade student that has their chromebook and charger with them, will be able to change out their old ones for new chromebooks and chargers. This coming school year, the decision has been made that students at East Fairmont Middle will not be allowed to carry a bookbag during the instructional day. Students may carry one to and from school, but they will need to be placed in the locker before classes start. Students may carry a small neoprene sleeve to carry their chromebook in and a small pencil bag or purse for writing utensils and personal items. Students going into 5th and 9th grade will receive new chromebooks this fall and the new chromebooks will come with one of these sleeves. Students in other grades may purchase their own to use. Reminder—-girls basketball live period stared Monday, June 12th 7:00-8:30pm at the middle school old gym. We will have a short parent meeting before we start at 7:00. This is open to any incoming 6th, 7th, and 8th grade girls that is interested in trying out for basketball at EFMS in November. Any questions, contact Coach Rogers at 304-517-4131.

This year's National Honor Society induction ceremony will be held this Wednesday, April 19th at 5:00 in the EFMS gym. If your student is being inducted and will be participating in the ceremony, please RSVP as soon as possible in Google Classroom. Thank you.

Parents and guardians: it has come to our attention that there are some questions regarding the Personalized Education Plan and we want to clarify. The pep plans are a guide for schools to follow but they are not written in stone. Students will have every opportunity to give any input on their schedules and class listings when they meet with their prospective counselors each year. The classes you see listed serve as a guide but not as a schedule for the students. These listings are subject to change each year. Each student will be met with yearly to discuss core classes and electives. If there are any remaining questions please be sure to contact Mr. Sayre or Mrs. Bittenbender here at EFMS.

Parent/teacher conferences will be Thursday, February 9th from 3:30 - 6:30. These will be in person and will be a first come, first serve basis with each teacher. Teachers will have sign up sheets outside of their classroom for you to sign in on. Parents will not be allowed to enter the building until after 3:30 and will be asked to leave by 6:30. There will also be no English tutoring with Ms. Sisk that evening due to the conferences. There also will be no East Middle sports practices that evening.
