Thank you to the great group of staff members led by Ms Renita Golson that coordinated the efforts for our Open House. It was great having our families and community members able to come in and participate in some of the activities that were occurring and just spend a family friendly evening in our school. Over 150 families participated in this evenings events. What a great way to kick off what is going to be a great school year!

Thank you to all of our students and parents for a great first day!!!! East Fairmont Middle was buzzing with excitement as our students returned to the classrooms today. A few reminders: Parents are not to come into the parking lot during morning drop offs or afternoon pickups. Drop off is to occur along Mason Street. Please have your student exit the car as soon as you get stopped on Mason and then walk toward the yellow stairs. This simple step will help keep traffic flowing. Can't wait to see all of our kiddos back tomorrow!

East Fairmont Middle does not allow the use of personal communication devices in the classrooms. Cellphones and other devices are to be turned off and placed in the locker during the school day. Devices that are being used or seen out during the school day will be sent to the office. Students can retrieve these devices at the end of the day for their first offense. After that, parents will need to come into the office to retrieve them and repeated offenses will also result in structured lunch. Wireless earbuds, smart watches that are being used to communicate with people, and other like devices all fall under this policy as well. If you need to contact your child during the school day for emergency purposes, please call 304-367-2123. Encourage your child to follow school policies as they are in place for maximizing learning and safety through the school day!

County Policy for COVID now is a minimum five day quarantine if your child is positive. These days will be counted as excused. Please notify the school by calling 304-367-2123, emailing Ms. Snodgrass at hsnodgra@k12.wv.us or sending a message through our official Facebook page as soon as you know your child is positive so that we can discuss the date of return. The child will also need to wear a mask on days 6 through 10. Students who have tested positive will not be allowed to actively participate in school sports until at least day 11.

East Fairmont Middle would like to welcome Danielle Bittenbender to the Hornet Family. Danielle will be our school counselor/social worker here in the fall. Below is a brief bio that she wrote to share with our Hornet Family. "My name is Danielle Bittenbender and I am the new counselor at East Fairmont Middle School. I graduated with my Masters from West Virginia University in 2013. Prior to WVU I went to Southern New Hampshire University on a basketball scholarship where I majored in Forensic Psychology. A fun fact about me is that I am from New York but I can’t stand the Yankees (sorry if we have any Yankee fans, don’t hold it against me). I can’t wait for the year to start and to work with the kids!" Welcome Danielle!

We are so excited and have been working so hard to make sure things are ready, we have not put out many reminders of details about daily runnings of the school. Students can be dropped off between 6:45 and 7:15. If you are going to drop your child off, the procedure is to go up Alta Vista to Mason St. Turn right onto Mason. Once on Mason, please let your child out anywhere along that sidewalk. They will then walk to the yellow stairs, down the hill, across the driveway, and into the building. Parents should NOT enter the parking lot during morning drop off or afternoon pick up. Classes start at 7:20 so it is important that all students be in the building by 7:15. Afternoon dismissals will start at 2:14. We will call for early busses at that time. Once the busses have been loaded and pull out, we will dismiss walkers. Walkers are to exit the building through the front door, cross the driveway at the crosswalk, go up the steps, and leave from there. Please be patient the first week during drop off and pick up as we have approximately 750 students and a large majority of those chose not to ride school provided busses.

East Fairmont Middle School teachers returned to their building today and began preparing for the upcoming year. Much of their professional development for the day focused on building positive relationships first with each other which will then cross over into positive relationships with their students. Marion County Schools focus on Rigor, Relevance, and Relationships. East Fairmont Middle realizes that a focus first on positive relationships will naturally push students to be more successful when they start focusing on the rigor and relevance pieces.

Reminder that all students that require an emergency medication at school MUST provide the medication and order the first day of school or cannot attend this year until that is completed. If the emergency med was discontinued, we need a doctor order stating it is no longer needed. Please call tomorrow between 8-3 and ask to talk to the school nurse if you have any questions.

East Fairmont Middle School staff returned to work today to prepare for the start of the new school year next week. Teachers started out their day at East Fairmont High School listening to a guest speaker whose message was one of motivation and encouraging teachers to build relationships and to be caring adults in the lives of their students. Marion County Teacher of the Year, East Fairmont Middle’s Charlotte Romberger, opened up the session by leading the county’s professional staff in the Pledge of Allegiance.
