Attendance

All students at Watson Elementary are expected to attend school regularly as well as be on time. This is extremely important in order to benefit from instructional programs and to develop habits of punctuality, self-discipline, responsibility, and good work habits.

Please refer to State Policy WV Code 18-8-4 (a) (b) © for the entire attendance policy.

  • Green attendance forms must be completed and returned to the classroom teacher following an absence for illness or medical appointments in order to be marked excused.

  • 3 unexcused absences - written warning to student, parent, or guardian.

  • 5 unexcused absences - conference with student, parent, guardian, and administration.

  • 10 unexcused absences - attendance director will file a Magistrate Court complaint against the parent or guardian.

The school day begins at 8:30. Students who arrive after that time must be signed into the office by an adult.  Students will also be marked tardy.  Three days tardy will count as one day absent for the PBIS school attendance rewards.

Excessive absences/tardies may disqualify the student from quarterly school wide PBIS attendance rewards.

Schedule medical appointments outside the school day (8:30-3:20) when possible.

By policy, your child will have the same number of days s/he was absent to make up missed work.  For example, a child who misses 2 days has 2 days after returning to complete missed work.

State and County policies followed by Watson Elementary may be found in their entirety at wvde.us or marionboe.com.
