Marion County Schools Families, Staff, and Communities:
Marion County Schools is aware of recent social media posts containing statements about our students, our district, our staff, and specific school matters. While we are unable to share details or respond publicly regarding student-specific issues due to federal confidentiality laws (FERPA) and state regulations, we want our community to know the following:
• The district takes all allegations and reports seriously.
• When we receive a complaint, we immediately follow established procedures, including notifying appropriate authorities.
• In this case, law enforcement was notified within 24 hours of receiving the report, and the West Virginia State Police have been in constant communication with the Superintendent regarding all related matters.
• Marion County Schools is cooperating fully with law enforcement in their review of all allegations and social media activity connected to this situation.
We are aware that recent online statements have resulted in threatening and harassing messages directed toward our staff and schools. We will not tolerate threats, harassment, or intimidation of our employees or students. Such behavior will be reported to law enforcement and addressed to the fullest extent of the law.
Our priority remains the safety and well-being of our students and staff. We encourage our community to rely on official information from the district and law enforcement, and to refrain from spreading or engaging with unverified claims on social media.
We thank you for your continued support of our students, staff, and schools.
Dr. Donna Heston, Superintendent
