Marion County Schools is aware of recent public statements, particularly on one person's social media account, alleging that the Board's decisions about Superintendent Dr. Donna Heston’s contract status was related to allegations of misconduct or any form of “cover up.” These claims are false.

The Marion County Board of Education’s decision regarding the Superintendent’s contract was made independently of and unrelated to any allegations involving any student matter.

Marion County Schools takes all reports concerning student safety seriously and follows established procedures in every case. Upon receiving such reports, the district immediately notified Child Protective Services and the West Virginia State Police and cooperates fully with all agencies throughout their review of each matter. The district also follows all required processes under federal and state law, including Title IX procedures, and maintains ongoing communication with law enforcement.

In addition, Marion County Schools addresses threats made toward our employees and school communities related to such situations. Any threatening or harassing conduct is documented and reported to law enforcement, and appropriate steps are taken to ensure the safety of our staff and students.

Marion County Schools is in possession of complete documentation related to the matter raised recently on social media, including several full recordings, not excerpts, and correspondence—all of which was provided to and reviewed by legal counsel and law enforcement for several months.

Because this matter involves student privacy protections under federal law, the district cannot discuss specific details publicly. However, we want to be clear that Marion County Schools has acted appropriately, responsibly, and in accordance with all policies and legal requirements.

We recognize the concern created by erroneous social media posts and encourage our community to rely on verified information from official sources rather than unverified claims and allegations.

The safety and well-being of our students and staff remains our highest priority.
