
Marion County’s Mu Chapter, Alpha Delta Kappa Phi is spreading love by collecting items for Marion County's at-risk and homeless students and families. Items will be collected from February 1 through the week of February 20. Collection boxes are at MC schools.

Lane Closure on I-79 to Begin Monday, January 23, 2023
Marion County, WV - There will be a lane closure on Interstate 79 southbound, at mile marker 133 (Kingmont) to mile marker 132 (South Fairmont/Whitehall), from 6:00 a.m. Monday, January 23, 2023, through 6 a.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2023, for work crews to pave in preparation of phase 2 construction of the Tygart River Bridge. 24-7 operations.
Expect major delays. Motorists are advised to plan ahead and allow additional time for their commute. Inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances could change the project schedule.

The stage is set as East, Fairmont Senior and North Marion robotics teams compete at the robotics competition, hosted at North Marion High School today with 30 teams from across the state. 🤖

Read aloud every chance you can get. It matters. Fairview Elementary hosted “Bedtime Stories & Bingo.” Pam Shanholtz, Literacy Volunteers of Marion County, shared presentations about the importance of reading aloud to children, bingo, and prize books to read at home.





And, it’s down to 3 in the Marion County Spelling Bee tonight. Great job, spellers!


Round 1 for 100 of the best spellers in the county, and we are so proud of the way each of these champions handled the pressure. Round 2 of the Marion County Spelling Bee is underway!


The hive is buzzing tonight for the Marion County Schools County-wide Spelling Bee, which begins at 6 PM. Students are registering now to bring the pride of their school to the stage of East Fairmont High School.





Insights to Behavior training at Pierpont with Marion County Schools special educators. It includes training on online positive behavior plans.


The Super Bowl LVII is February 12 and Monongah Middle is ready to kick off. Students are in teams during LION Time where they are assigned a weekly goal for passing topics in math. Each topic passed equals yardage gained weekly. Once a “touch down” is scored, the team will earn the points to by Super ALEKS Bowl Champions!


The First in Innovation for Safety and Security for entry into our schools. Phase One of installation of the first facial recognition in a school in WV is underway as Rank One Computing works with Marion County Schools technicians at West Fairmont Middle School today.



Stop motion animation, recycling crayons for student-created molds for a student business, and integrating line skills from math into art. Students at Fairview Middle lead in math, reading and writing growth because of application of those skills in classes like art.





Let me tell you about adventures in writing with fish, bears, apples and friends! Students read aloud their writing to Superintendent Dr. Heston. Fairview Elementary reads and writes and grows and spells with movement. We sure are proud of their talents in Marion County.





Jazzy the Jacquar and Mountaineer Mary talked with the student body today. Jayenne students reviewed good student expectations and learned a lot of what it takes to be the Mountaineer today.




The Marion County Board of Education honored the newly named Executive Director of the SBA Andy Neptune tonight before its regularly scheduled meeting as the Maintenance Department, school and county administrators, businesses and family and friends stopped by to wish him luck.





The advisement from Homeland Security has been lifted with streets connected to Four States Road at this time. 1.17.2023.


Homeland Security Advises: Students and families residing on these streets in Marion County should remain in their homes at this time due to Marion County Sheriff’s Department Business. Portland Lane, Brick Hill Road, Mortar Street — all streets are off Four States Road — until further notice. Bus routes will be delayed.


In observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Marion County Schools will be closed Monday, January 16, 2023. The campaign for a federal holiday began soon after his assassination in 1968. President Ronald Reagan signed it into law in 1983. It was first observed three years later.
