Marion County Schools is proud to support Fairmont State University Foundation’s Falcon Day of Giving, which directly impacts the future of the education profession.
💰 The Rising Costs of Becoming a Teacher in WV 💰
Pursuing a career in education comes with significant expenses, and Falcon Day of Giving aims to alleviate some of that burden. Funds raised will go toward supporting students pursuing teaching degrees and covering the increasing costs associated with certification, including:
✅ Tuition for a 4-year teaching degree – averaging $40,000–$60,000 in West Virginia
✅ PRAXIS Exams (required for licensure) – costing $150–$200 per test
✅ Background checks & fingerprinting fees – around $50
✅ Licensure application & renewal fees – up to $100+
✅ Student teaching expenses – often requiring unpaid full-time work
Why This Matters: With rising costs, many aspiring teachers struggle financially before even entering the classroom. By supporting Falcon Day of Giving, we can help ensure that passionate individuals can afford to pursue and complete their teaching degrees—helping strengthen West Virginia’s education system.

Tune In! North Marion High School Student Council selected the NECCO Organization based out of Fairmont, West Virginia to be this school year annual service project for the 2024-2025 school year. On December 19, 2024, North Marion Student Council hosted a Pennies from Huskies Heaven. As teachers are getting ready to teach in their classrooms, students provide pennies for the teacher to count. As long as the participating teacher is counting pennies, instruction is halted and a free activity can be utilized. Students may visit the library and exchange their dollars for pennies to be given throughout the day to any participating teacher. The teacher at the end of the day who has collected the most pennies is awarded a banner for the year.
Student Body Secretary, Audrey Hamilton says, "We chose NECCO because many of the children that are in the foster care system in WV are only there due to their families abusing substances. So, instead of trying to help those who abuse substances, we wanted to help those who are affected by it."
