Attendance Matters. Did you know that missing 1 day of school every 2 weeks adds up to 20 days per year, which is 4 weeks of school per year? Over 13 years of schooling, that’s 1 and 1/2 years lost. Every day for every student counts in Marion County Schools.



“Never a checklist. Always complexity. There is no step-by-step shortcut to transformation.” Middle school principals met to discuss Michael Fullan’s book, The Principal: Three Keys to Maximizing Impact. Chapter One was presented by Principal Bombard.




Jayenne’s Second-grade Scholars of Ms. Patterson’s class wrote friendly letters to their favorite Disney character. They started with a letter graphic organizer, wrote, and edited drafts, and addressed an envelope. The finals were sent to Disneyworld and Disneyland for reply..




“Every child deserves a Christmas.” Registrations for the Marion County Toy Shop have begun. Forms due back to schools by November 11. Toys distributed December 3 at the Marion County Election Center.



MCS 21st CCLC programs are having a special celebration for National LIGHTS ON AFTERSCHOOL Day, October 20. Families are invited to come see an after school program. Stations with activities for all that attend. A light up for after school with lanterns or glow sticks planned.


Reading is a priority! Monongah Elementary Title I students read a Leveled Literacy book about duct tape and then made their own duct tape bracelets.



Carving, cutting and applesauce to boot! East Dale Pre-K got fully into carving pumpkins and making applesauce today. 🎃

Special night at Fairview Elementary at a Title I Parent Meeting featuring the WV Mountaineer speaking on perseverance tonight -never give up on your dream!





Middle school and high school school-wide positive behavior intervention support teams (PBIS) met tonight to work on attendance and fall planning for Tier 2 supports with Erin Day, Behavior Support Specialist with the WV Behavioral/Mental Health Technical Assistance Center.

Fairview Middle is continuing to build relationships with students and the community. Students write what they are currently reading and place magnets with their interests outside of school on their lockers. These are conversation starters with peers and staff at FMS.




The MCS STEAM Bus is at Fairview Elementary today making magic circuits with 3rd graders!



The Uncommon Man is a program started by community men and leaders
to support young male students and future gentlemen at Blackshere Elementary.

The FSHS LSIC is hosting the 1st Annual TRICK-OR-TREAT WITH THE POLAR BEARS. The event will take place at East-West Stadium on Sunday, October 30th from 6PM - 8PM.


A Team Approach! Happy Boss’s Day as it’s celebrated throughout all MCS and the County Office and departments today. The secretaries of CO provided lunch today for the staff.


Supporting students! Jayenne Elementary’s sensory path installed. All elementary schools in Marion County have sensory pathways now! A sensory path is a series of guided movements for kids to follow, complete the movements, work off excess energy and develop gross motor skills.
