The deadline for 9th and 10th grade students to submit Part II of the application for Governor's Computer Science Institute is Monday, April 15, 2024. This amazing opportunity is free for students and takes place on the WVU campus June 16-22, 2024. The only cost to parents is transportation to and from WVU. The Annual History Expo by the Marion County Historical Society, is April 6th in the County Courthouse, 10 am until 3 pm. Come and learn Fairmont, Marion County and area history, featuring the greatest train robbery in U.S. history. It happened about 65 miles from Fairmont.
Third graders at Watson Elementary held their annual egg drop. Students worked all week designing their contraptions to protect their eggs and loved seeing their teachers on the roof.
The Easter 🐰 hopped in to say hello to Fairview Elementary School students with some help from the Marion County Rescue Squad.
Watson's 4th Grade hopped into Math mode and found fractions and decimals inside their Easter eggs. Once all problems were solved, they turned in a completed answer sheet in exchange for a treat! 🐰 🧮
Kindergarten students at Blackshere Elementary created bunny traps this week to capture the Easter Bunny 🐰
When they returned from their reward day, they were excited to see their traps had caught some bunnies. But not THE Easter Bunny, who is still hopping around somewhere.
Families: On the afternoon of April 8, 2024, our region will experience a partial solar eclipse on the first day students return from spring break. Out of an abundance of caution, MCS has purchased solar eclipse glasses. The eclipse will continue during dismissal time. Please discuss with your child wearing the solar glasses provided until arriving home. Further reinforce dangers of viewing the solar eclipse or looking directly at the sun during the specific timed event. If your child drives to and from school, discuss your expectations regarding safety measures. All schools are encouraged to share the solar eclipse viewing experience with by utilizing television feeds or internet live streams. Friday, March 29, 2024 begins Spring Break through April 5 in Marion County Schools. Rolling into spring break, Mr Williams’ Fourth Grade Class at Watson Elementary made Oreo Balls for their class reward today.
On May 2, 2024 Marion County Schools will again collaborate with partners to support the Marion County Special Olympics at East-West Stadium. White Hall Elementary is jump starting its support with the tennis shoes that students colored.
