4th Grade Estimation Room at MCS Math Field Day today! Over 30 students will earn a spot at the March 26 Regional Math Field Day. The top 3 from each class in grades 4-9 and 2 teams of 5 will represent MC as the best mathematicians in our county there.

In collaboration with the MC Health Department, effective Tuesday, February 22, 2022, masks are optional for students and staff in all MCS schools, busses, and extracurricular events. In January, MCS extended its mask mandate through March 1 when it indicated it would reassess. The mask mandate has been lifted. All other mitigation strategies remain in effect in MCS.

2022 FOURTH CIRCUIT ESSAY CONTEST: The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit is seeking submissions for its 2022 essay contest. Students in Grades 9-12 in Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia are invited to consider and share their thoughts on the questions "Is the Fourteenth Amendment's Equal Protection Clause sufficient to secure the rights of all citizens, or is the ERA necessary to promote gender equality?" Like employees throughout MCS today, the Barnes Learning Center is diving into meetings and trainings like this one for administering the WV General Summative Assessment. Grades 3-8 will take the WVGSA April 4 - May 27. The SAT is administered to all 11th in WV March 23.

Fairmont Senior High held the annual Black History Month Read-In Feb. 16, organized by Teachers Adrin Fisher and Amanda Johnson. Students read works of their choice from a Black writer, poet, artist, or activist that had personal meaning. Writers ranged from Phillis Wheatley to Maya Angelou to Amanda Gorman to Kendrick Lamar.
