Turn It Up! The West Virginia Department of Education is honored to announce the 2025 Golden Horseshoe winners for Marion County. Since 1931, students have been honored as knights of the Golden Horseshoe having demonstrated exceptional knowledge of West Virginia history on the state administered exam. This year, 223 winners will join the ranks of WV citizens who have won this prestigious award. Tune In! as the process begins with surveyors and their work at Watson Elementary today in preparation for the 10 "man trap" entrances going into Marion County Schools soon. Local funds as well as grants from the School Building Authority and WVDE make the work possible.

Tune In! Monongah Elementary School roared with excitement today when children’s book author/illustrator Ashley Belote visited the school. Ms. Ashley read her latest book, Sheepwrecked, to students, discussed the book publishing process, and taught an interactive drawing lesson. Thanks to the generosity of the MES PTO, every student was able to choose one of Belote’s books to be signed and taken home. Ashley Belote is a WV native and has written or illustrated eight books with her ninth, Little Red and Big, Bad Fred, to be published this fall.

Turn It On! 📚✨ This evening elementary PBIS teams across the district dove into a Spring training centered around core Tier 1 elements, collaborative data reviews, and exploring tiered support strategies!  Teams also updated their action plans to continue building safe, supportive, and engaging school environments for all students!  🧠📊

Turn It Up! as White Hall Elementary School students, staff and parents received its official 2025 WV Exemplary School banner, one of only three banners awarded in the entire State of WV, today from the West Virginia Department of Education. 💙

Turn It Up! and salute a State Champion from West Fairmont Middle School. Scarlett Poling brought home the #1 ranking in the State Social Studies Fair for her project developed and presented against projects from all over the state in US History: What were the Orphan Trains?

Turn It Up! for these State Champions in 3rd grade! BEE-Lieve in greatness for this trio of Pleasant Valley Elementary that brought home a State Championship in the Social Studies Fair today! They competed against projects in grades 3-5 submitted and presented from all over WV.

Turn It On! Talk, listen, grow! Rich conversations and “Strive for Five” method build strong vocabularies, critical thinking, and a solid foundation for learning as Pre-K staff, led by Amber Myers of the WVDE, complete the Second Science of Literacy training today.

Turn It On! Major Wikle from the Army National Guard visited Rivesville School today to cap off our Military Pride and Purple Up Week at the school.

Tune In! North Marion High School's SAT March Madness ended today. Students completed 5 IXL skills to earn a ticket towards a new iPad or MacBook. Over 2700 skills were completed to improve SAT skills! The Madness ended today with the drawing for iPads and MacBook.

At the Governor’s School of Entrepreneurship (GSE), high school students will explore the exciting world of entrepreneurship - no experience required! No need to have a business plan or a big idea—just a willingness to explore, create, and challenge yourself in a fun, hands-on environment. Come find out if entrepreneurship is for you! Students will learn to innovate and solve problems the same way that Intuit, Apple, AirBnB, and other world-leading companies do. Over the course of 10 days, we’ll head outside to experience some of the Huntington area’s most interesting attractions - like Appalachian League baseball, theme parks, and more - and find opportunities to help them innovate their way to even greater success. Tune In! as students ready, set, roll -- drop -- for the arrival of the 🐰at Blackshere Elementary's 21st CCLC afterschool program's 🥚 drop challenge. There were 4 survivors from the designs of the students.

Tune In! for Round 2 of Adopt a Pilot at Mannington Middle School with 5th grade students. This is a collaboration between Southwest Airlines Adopt a Pilot Program and Marion County Schools.

Turn It Up! as the "White Hall Way" was honored by the West Virginia Board of Education and State Superintendent Michele Blatt this morning. Congratulations to the students, staff, families and Principal Myers for being selected as one of three WV Exemplary Practice Schools.

Tune In! and feel the pride of all of Marion County Schools behind East Fairmont High School's Brielle Gregware as she displays courage, sacrifice, service and honor to join the ranks of the less than 1 percent in the US at Military Signing Day today. Gregware signed with the Army National Guard. In the special ceremony, Staff Sergeant and Teacher Tim Bean, Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army Frank Vitale, Major James Wikle, and David Tucker of the VFW spoke to friends and family celebrating Gregware's commitment. EFHS alumni and PFCs Jayden Priolette and Jackson Lilley were part of the special signing ceremony as well, organized by EFHS's Ms. Britcher.

The WV Governor's School Tourism is seeking representatives from Marion County Schools. Required Qualifications: Must be a current high school student in West Virginia with plans to attend next year. Must be a West Virginia resident. Must be a freshman or sophomore at the time of application. Must have a grade-point average of at least 3.0. Must satisfy all immunization requirements according to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR). Non-public school and homeschooled students must provide proof of immunizations. The school counselor must be involved in the application process for the GST. Please provide sufficient time for school personnel to secure the required documents for the application. Within the application, students will be required to secure TWO teacher recommendations.
