This is a message from Marion County Schools. We want to share important information about a new program that can help income-eligible families feed their children during summer months. The West Virginia Department of Human Services and the West Virginia Department of Education are launching a brand-new program called West Virginia Summer EBT. Please listen carefully for important information about this new program. This is NOT the same as PEBT, which helped during COVID-19. Our county board of education fully participates in the Community Eligibility Provision for free school meals and all students automatically received PEBT. The Summer EBT program is based on new federal guidelines. Not ALL students will be eligible for SEBT. Only income-eligible households are eligible. **Families that do not meet the income criteria will not be approved for Summer EBT. If your family receives certain benefits like SNAP or WV Works/TANF, your enrolled child will automatically receive SEBT. If you do not receive public benefits and you believe your household is income-eligible, you will need to complete an income application. To complete an application online, please visit www.schoolcafe.com. Applying online is the most efficient way to apply. Please only submit one application per child. If you need a paper application, you should contact your local DoHS field office for more information. Your child’s school will not have applications nor accept completed applications. If you have other children in your household between the ages of 6 and 17 who are not enrolled in our school system, they will only receive SEBT if your household gets SNAP or another qualifying benefit. Federal law prohibits an income application from being filed for children who do not attend a school that participates in the National School Lunch Program. For more information on this program to support income-eligible families, please visit www.wvsebt.org or call 1-866-545-6502.

Congratulations to Barrackville's Kimberly Kettler, who was announced today as a 2024 PAEST K-6 State Finalist. The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) are the highest honors bestowed by the United States government specifically for K-12 STEM teachers (science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and/or computer science). The awards were established by Congress in 1983. The President may recognize up to 108 exemplary teachers each year from the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, The Department of Defense Education Activity schools, or the U.S. Territories as a group (American Samoa, Guam, Nothern Mariana Islands, and U.S. Virgin Islands). The PAEMST award recognizes teachers who have both a deep content knowledge of the subjects they teach and the ability to motivate and enable students to be successful.
