Congratulations to North Marion's Jordan Cox! The WV Disability History Essay Contest committee is proud to announce the winners of the 2024 Disability History Essay Contest in West Virginia. This contest was designed to reinforce Disability History Week in WV and to provide high school seniors an opportunity to showcase their writing skills and knowledge of the Disability Rights Movement. The Disability History Essay Contest is a collaborative effort between the West Virginia Division of Rehabilitation Services (WVDRS), West Virginia Statewide Independent Living Council (WVSILC), and State Rehabilitation Council (SRC), with cooperation from the West Virginia Department of Education.
Congratulations to Haydyn Dudash and Hunter Bragg, both juniors at East Fairmont High, who won the doubles championship for the Big Ten. Along the bracket, they shut out two Bridgeport teams 8-0 and then won in a comeback match against RCB 9-7! In singles, Hunter Bragg made it to the final four bracket and tied for 3rd overall. 🎾

To be deemed “Eligible and Recommended”, an individual must be a raising male senior who has a Grade Point Average of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale or its equivalent, is deemed to have good character, and is actively involved in school and community activities.

Committed: Today was Military Signing Day at North Marion High School as we all salute the commitment of these 3 North Marion High School seniors, who signed with the National Guard today at a special ceremony at NMHS.
East Park’s second grade took a visit to the Marion County Courthouse today to learn about the fairness of rules and laws.
The North Marion High School Acapella group Sound Station spent its evening providing the evening entertainment at Harmony of White Oak retirement community. The group volunteers several times a year to provide beautiful music to community events.
The West Virginia Department of Education and the West Virginia Department of Tourism are recruiting heavily for the Governor’s School for Tourism. It is very important for every county to be represented in this school as students will be serving as ambassadors for tourism in our state. Any 9th and 10th grade student may apply for this school. The dates for 2024 are June 20-June 29. Participants will be going whitewater rafting, staying at WV State Parks, and visiting all 9 of the travel regions in WV. Students will be traveling on charter buses and it’s all free! The applications may be found on the WVDE website along with all other relevant information. The deadline to apply is April 26, 2024.
