Pretend play helps develop thinking, learning, and problem-solving abilities. The Monongah Pre-K gets it right with their set up of a donut shop in housekeeping where they acted out making goodies and selling them.

Cultivating student leadership and voice tonight as the Middle School Student Summit was held at EFMS. Student representatives from grades 5-8 throughout Marion County shared their praises and concerns with Superintendent Dr. Heston and MC Board Vice President Tom Dragich.

Join Marion County Schools in celebrating Read Across America Week, March 2-6, 2023. Help showcase the power of reading aloud, reading what interests us for enjoyment, and reading for growth in knowledge. The National Education Association launched Read Across America in 1998.

Reflecting on student data and plotting a path for further student growth! Blackshere teachers worked today in the school's "Data Room" with Allen Brock from Iready. Great learning curve for using Iready as a teaching strategy.

Ms. Noad, Mrs. Corley’s student teacher, practices a new technique, Think See Wonder, using 6 images. It was taught during a Professional Development training with author Tammy McGregor, who visited Pleasant Valley Monday. The technique helps with vocabulary comprehension.

Rehearsal today at Rivesville with Dr. Williams, Band Director of The Pride of WV Marching Band at WVU, Mountaineer Basketball Pep Band, WVU Symphonic Band. He worked with the band at Rivesville in preparation for their upcoming performance at Region 10 Band Festival in March.

Thank you, Governor Justice and GAMECHANGER for visiting Marion County to speak to 2,000 of our Marion County high schoolers from East Fairmont, Fairmont Senior, and North Marion about "One Pill Can Kill," a video for opioid awareness and prevention and the Gamechanger movement.

February is Career Technical Education Month and the Marion County BOE honored Marion County Technical Center tonight with proclamation for its programming and all of the CTE programs in MC high schools. MCTC started middle school outreach and a job shadowing program this year.

Lane Blake, County 1st place and district 2nd place winner VFW Voice of Democracy contest was honored. The 4.5 GPA NMHS student read his speech aloud to honor veterans. Also, teachers Anne Baker, Barracksville; Chris Malnick, Rivesville; and Michelle Betler, WFMS, were honored.

The hardworking Marion County Schools cafeteria staffs attended Person in Charge training today on the professional learning day.

Due to water issues and testing, East Dale Elementary and Meadowdale will be closed to students Tuesday, February 21, 2023. Staff will report.

Making tracks! Monongah Middle School staff spent the day in Biztown today. It's a simulated student-run town where students apply for jobs, run businesses, secure personal and business needs, and run a radio station. Monongah Middle students will soon run the town for a day.

Love Bugs! Mrs. Hunt, a Science 9 teacher at East Fairmont High School, has students thinking of the month of love in a new way with classifications, habitats, and love traits of the insect.

East Fairmont High's 9th grade English class practiced integrating curriculum as English Teacher Mrs. Devault's students recite works by memory, illustrate, and learn of the authors and history of Black History Month.

Teachers at Pleasant Valley are enjoying their day learning about how to Sketchnote from Tanny McGregor, a presenter from Model Schools 2022.

Sing and smile! Marion County Schools first A Cappella group, Polar Vortex, is representing nationally at the Nordonia A Cappella Conference. They take the stage later today and will spend time in individual sessions while networking with a cappella groups from around the nation.
