American Water is thrilled to offer our 2024 Inclusion and Diversity Scholarship, providing equitable opportunities for students across American Water’s footprint to continue their education. Awards totaling $100,000 will be distributed to students in a non-medical STEM or business-related field at an accredited four-year college or university. This scholarship is designed to support the educational aspirations of students who represent lived experiences and backgrounds that are underrepresented in the utility industry and who value the advancement of inclusion and diversity in all aspects of society. The deadline to apply for this year’s scholarship program is Wednesday, January 31. American Water announced the inaugural class of I&D Scholarship recipients in 2023. Ten students were selected from 1,475 applications and received $10,000 each through the scholarship. Awards are renewable up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, based on eligibility. Marion County Schools is closed on Friday, January 19th due to snow accumulation, poor road conditions and the Governor's declaration of a State of Emergency.
Due to the arrival of this snow and the temperatures, all WVSSAC athletic events, and K-6 tournaments and games as well as practices and activities will be cancelled for Friday, January 19th, Saturday, January 20th and Sunday January 21st will be cancelled.

Scholarship applications are now being accepted for the EQT Foundation’s Energize Your Education Scholarship Program. This program is offered to current high school seniors within the EQT operational footprint looking to pursue a field of study in a two- or four-year program related to careers in the natural gas industry. Marion County Schools is closed Friday, January 19, 2024. It is snow day (#4) due to the Governor's State of Emergency and the projected weather forecast.

Look at these smiling faces with the installation of 8 New Line Boards up and running at Pleasant Valley Elementary. Marion County Schools have been receiving these pieces of technology in classrooms on a rotating basis.


Soles Electric presented a $1000.00 student scholarship to each of our three Marion County High Schools for a student who attends each school and is also enrolled in the Marion County Tech Center. This is a scholarship from the Jack Pethtel Memorial Golf Tournament.

Due to the temperature and predicted weather forecast, The Marion County Spelling Bee scheduled for tomorrow, January 18th has been postponed until next Thursday, January 25th. West Fairmont Middle School custodial staff is working hard this morning to clear the sidewalks for faculty and staff. Thank you! ❄️


A steam line burst at Mannington Middle School, resulting in no heat throughout the building. The cafe has heat. As a result, staff of MMS will not report to MMS today.

Marion County Schools is operating under a NTID "Climate Control" Day #1 Schedule for Wednesday, January 17, 2024. The 200-day staff will report on a 2-hour delay schedule. Students in MCS will have two days upon returning to school to submit their assignments. Students are offered a meal between the hours of 10:30 to 12:30 at each school where it is safe enough for families to be on the roads. These NTID materials and protocols (cumulative of 5 days) have been provided to families of MCS by the child's school.

The 17th annual SMART529 “When I Grow Up” Essay Contest for K-5 is underway through February 23, 2024. Regional winners will win a $500 SMART529 education savings account and a $500 cash prize for their school. A grand prize winner will receive an additional $4,500 in their savings account.
