
This week MCS Nikki Kettler and Jenna Wolfe were recognized by WV Department of Education as "2023 Unit Design Collaborative Star." There were 7 recognized and MC had 2 selected to celebrate for growth, leadership, professionalism, and/or aspiration through this math project.



Rivesville Elementary/Middle will be releasing at noon today, May 5, 2023, due to water issues in the Town of Rivesville.

May is Better Hearing and Speech Month and Marion County Schools couldn't be more thankful for our speech language pathologists who help us all find a voice.

Blackshere getting ready for the changing of the guard. It was a great Meet & Greet with Mrs. Henline tonight, the new principal of Blackshere Elementary, effective May 12, 2023 as current Principal Dr. DeVaul assumes the principalship of Mannington Middle.




Mrs. Devault students at East Fairmont High School are on an epic journey! The 9th graders are reading the Odyssey, by Homer. They created an "epithet," repeated adjectives or phrases linked to a god, king, hero used to describe a specific characteristic students hold.


Congratulations to Marion County Schools students and staff, who collectively met a goal this year of a $5,000 donation to Marion County Special Olympics. As of today, the total is $5,512.10! The Marion County Special Olympics will be May 18 at East-West Stadium. Thank you!

Leaders Investing in Family Engagement: Dr. DeVaul's team met beginning in August 2022, every 2 weeks to complete assignments, team building and sharing of ideas. They grew, shared, had workshops and family activities. They learned there are great things going at Blackshere. Thank you Ashley Davis, Lisa Hayes, Donna Richardson, and Melanie Rieser. A year long journey with an amazing team.

Congratulations, Kathy Cyphers, Marion County Schools 2023 Service Personnel of the Year. Ms. Cyphers has been a secretary for Marion County Schools since March 2014.


On this, Teacher Appreciation Day, Marion County Schools is honored to recognize our 2023 County Teacher of the Year Ms. Reesman, a math teacher at East Fairmont Middle School. She has taught 14 years at EFMS and Rivesville.


Marion County Schools continues collaboration with WVU Health Sciences by providing clinical fieldwork experience for WVU Occupational Therapy students. Hannah Louzy and Ashley Baker-Spivey completed a 12-week rotation with Marion county schools. Congratulations and best wishes!


Marion County 2023 Golden Horseshoe winners announced! Since 1931, students have been honored as knights of the Golden Horseshoe having demonstrated exceptional knowledge of West Virginia history on the state administered exam. This year, 226 winners will join the ranks of WV citizens who have won this prestigious award and MCS has 5 of them.

Teacher Appreciation Day is May 2, 2023. Start the celebration early by joining with Marion County Schools and thanking a teacher. The National Education Association designated Teacher Appreciation Week 2023 as May 8th-12th. In 1953, Eleanor Roosevelt stated to Congress that there needs to be a day when teachers are regularly recognized for their efforts. The first National Teacher Day occurred March 7, 1980.


Over 1,000 students engaged with Marion County Schools and volunteers and collaborative partners in a celebration of literacy this past weekend at the Marion County Literacy Fair. Please take a few minutes to give us your feedback.
