April 16: Crazy Camo Day April 17: Red, White & Blue Day April 18: Wear red to remember everyone deployed. April 19: Wear purple on "Purple Up Day" in honor of our military kids.

Congratulations to Barrackville's Kimberly Kettler, who was announced today as a 2024 PAEST K-6 State Finalist. The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) are the highest honors bestowed by the United States government specifically for K-12 STEM teachers (science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and/or computer science). The awards were established by Congress in 1983. The President may recognize up to 108 exemplary teachers each year from the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, The Department of Defense Education Activity schools, or the U.S. Territories as a group (American Samoa, Guam, Nothern Mariana Islands, and U.S. Virgin Islands). The PAEMST award recognizes teachers who have both a deep content knowledge of the subjects they teach and the ability to motivate and enable students to be successful. Awardees reflect the expertise and dedication of the Nation’s teaching core and demonstrate the positive impact of excellent teachers on student achievement.

Marion County Schools is closed Friday, April 12, 2024. Students and staff will not report due to continued weather conditions and flooding throughout the county. The 261-day employees will report as usual.

Marion County Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay schedule for Friday, April 12, 2024 due to a significant amount of rain and flooding in the county.

The project adds walls and a 3-classroom addition to the school to eliminate trailers and make a better learning environment for students. The deadline for 9th and 10th grade students to submit Part II of the application for Governor's Computer Science Institute is Monday, April 15, 2024. This amazing opportunity is free for students and takes place on the WVU campus June 16-22, 2024. The only cost to parents is transportation to and from WVU. The Annual History Expo by the Marion County Historical Society, is April 6th in the County Courthouse, 10 am until 3 pm. Come and learn Fairmont, Marion County and area history, featuring the greatest train robbery in U.S. history. It happened about 65 miles from Fairmont.

Third graders at Watson Elementary held their annual egg drop. Students worked all week designing their contraptions to protect their eggs and loved seeing their teachers on the roof.
