Day 2 of the Marion County Schools New Teacher Academy featured a financial overview by Treasurer Scott Reider and Mrs. Toothman as well as a Human Resources and Support Services introduction by Ms. DeVaul. The county's Master Teachers took it to the summit with supports from our homegrown experts.
We train. We try. We triumph. Marion County Schools welcomed new teachers to the district today at Day 1 of our New Teacher Academy. Today's session is just one of four layers of support for the over 40 new teachers in Marion County Schools for 2025-26.
Marion County Schools Transportation Department will conduct our third "Come Drive A Bus" on Saturday, September 20th from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Marion County Board of Education Central Offices, 1516 Mary Lou Retton Drive. Marion County Schools is aware of recent social media posts containing statements about our students, our district, our staff, and specific school matters. While we are unable to share details or respond publicly regarding student-specific issues due to federal confidentiality laws (FERPA) and state regulations, we want our community to know the following:
• The district takes all allegations and reports seriously.
• When we receive a complaint, we immediately follow established procedures, including notifying appropriate authorities.
• In this case, law enforcement was notified within 24 hours of receiving the report, and the West Virginia State Police have been in constant communication with the Superintendent regarding all related matters.
• Marion County Schools is cooperating fully with law enforcement in their review of all allegations and social media activity connected to this situation.
We are aware that recent online statements have resulted in threatening and harassing messages directed toward our staff and schools. We will not tolerate threats, harassment, or intimidation of our employees or students. Such behavior will be reported to law enforcement and addressed to the fullest extent of the law.
Our priority remains the safety and well-being of our students and staff. We encourage our community to rely on official information from the district and law enforcement, and to refrain from spreading or engaging with unverified claims on social media.

The West Virginia Veterans to Teachers Program strives to provide specialized career counseling to current and former members of the U.S. Armed Forces on how to earn initial teacher certification. Senate Bill 765 as well as W. Va. Code §18A-3-2a(a)(1)(D) provides a unique set of qualifications veterans may meet to receive a Professional Teaching Certificate. We train. We try. We triumph. Marion County Schools is excited to welcome students back for the first day, grades 1-12, August 20, 2025. These East Fairmont High School seniors were caught today painting their parking spaces in preparation for the first day of their last year.
The 5th Annual Carl Hopkins Aviation Expo, annual two-day event is happening this weekend!
When: Friday August 8 & Saturday August 9,2025, 10am to 4pm
Where: The Bridge Sports Complex, Bridgeport, WV
What: The expo will feature FREE family fun educational events & demonstrations including: remote-controlled aircraft flights, a flight simulator, model rocket launches with professionals from NASA and West Virginia University, control line flying, drone flights, kite flying, a helicopter demonstration by the Army, and a special guest appearance by Victoria Yeager, widow of Brig. Gen. Chuck Yeager, the first pilot to break the sound barrier.
Food trucks offering shaved ice, hot dogs and hoagies will be present, as well as routine “candy air drops” from remote-controlled planes. Everyone is welcome to this family fun event.

We train. We try. We triumph. Marion County Schools STEAM Bus rolled into Mannington to help kick off the 93rd year of the Mannington District Fair. Pinwheels, puzzles, and wikki stix were handed out along the parade route to families attending the parade.
"We train. We try. We triumph." Sergeant Major Jones and Seargeant Major MoneyPenny presented Marion County Schools principals with their Purple Star banners today at Camp Dawson. Marion County is one of only 17 Purple Star Districts in WV.

The West Virginia Family Engagement Center (WVFEC) team presented at the WV Department of Education’s SAIL Conference with a session titled Bridging Connections: WV Family Engagement in Action this week. It was facilitated by WVFEC Director Kayla Benson and WVFEC Fellows Lisa Hayes from Blackshere Elementary and Michell Craddock, the session highlighted real-life examples of how strong family-school-community partnerships can transform outcomes for students.

Due to construction at Watson Elementary, New Student Orientation/Enrollment Date scheduled on Friday, August 1, 2025, is cancelled due to ongoing roof renovation. The second scheduled date of Friday, August 8, 9am-3pm, remains as scheduled. We look forward to welcoming new students.
